About the Journal

The PUP Journal of Science and Technology (PUPJST) is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP).

PUPJST is dedicated to disseminating rigorous, evidence-based research on the scientific, technological, and environmental challenges, priorities, and innovations in the Philippines and neighboring regions such as ASEAN and East Asia.

The journal serves as a bridge between regional research contexts and global scientific discourse, advancing the visibility and accessibility of local scholarship while upholding international publishing standards.

Aims and Scope

Aims

PUPJST aims to advance scientific knowledge and regional development by publishing high-impact research across the natural, applied, computational, engineering, and technological sciences. Specifically, the journal aims to:

  • Advance Regional Science: Provide a scholarly platform for studies addressing local ecosystems, regional environmental realities, agricultural systems, public health, and technological adaptation in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.
  • Connect Regional Findings to Global Knowledge: Elevate locally grounded research that generates methodologies, technologies, or insights with broader global relevance.
  • Drive Evidence-Based Solutions: Support sustainable development, industry needs, community empowerment, and policy-making through applied and interdisciplinary science.

 Scope

PUPJST publishes original, interdisciplinary, and applied research with a strong regional focus across—but not limited to—the following core areas:

  • Agricultural Sciences: Sustainable farming systems, crop and soil science, agricultural biotechnology, and regional food security.
  • Forestry and Fisheries: Tropical forest management, biodiversity conservation, aquaculture, and sustainable management of aquatic resources in island/coastal ecosystems.
  • Life Sciences: Biodiversity, tropical ecology, molecular biology, microbiology, and evolutionary biology relevant to regional flora and fauna.
  • Food Sciences, Nutrition, and Dietetics: Food processing, preservation, safety, functional foods, and community nutrition within regional food systems.
  • Environmental Sciences: Climate adaptation, natural hazard monitoring, pollution, waste management, coastal management, and ecosystem resilience.
  • Computing and Information Sciences: AI, data science, cybersecurity, software systems, and digital solutions designed for regional, industrial, or societal challenges.
  • Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology: Applied mathematics, engineering design, renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and appropriate technologies for emerging economies.
  • Cross-Disciplinary & Applied Research: Studies translating multifield research into practical applications, community interventions, or decision-support tools.

 

Geographic Focus and Author Guidelines

·         While PUPJST maintains a strong commitment to elevating Philippine and Southeast Asian scholarship, submissions are open to authors worldwide without geographic restriction.

Article Types

PUPJST accepts the following peer-reviewed contributions:

  1. Original Scientific Papers: Comprehensive reports of empirical research demonstrating high methodological rigor.
  2. Application-Focused Articles: Studies emphasizing the design, deployment, or validation of technology-driven tools, methodologies, or field interventions.
  3. Review Articles: Critical syntheses of literature focusing on topics of regional or global scientific priority.
  4. Short Communications: Urgent or concise reports of breakthrough findings, novel methods, or significant preliminary data.
  5. Narrative Reports: Evidence-based syntheses documenting community-based scientific interventions, technological implementations, or regional field projects.

 

Publication frequency:

The journal is published once a year.

Research Paper Publishing Policy

PUPJST publishes articles that emphasize research, development, and application within the fields of science, engineering, and technology. All manuscripts are pre-reviewed by the editorial review committee. Contributions must be original, not previously or simultaneously published elsewhere, and are critically reviewed before they are published. Research must be written in English and should have sound grammar and proper terminologies.
