‘Sandaang Taon

Abstract

'Sandaang Taon (Centenary) is the theme song of the Proletaryo: Dokumentaryo ng Kilusang Manggagawa sa Pilipinas (Proletariat: Documentary of the Philippine Workers’ Movement) produced in 2002 to commemorate the 100 years of militant unionism in the country and the very important role of the workers in sowing the seeds of the struggle for national freedom and democracy. Musikang Bayan contributed the song as a tribute to the inspiring and continuing struggle of the Filipino workers. In Danny Fabella’s own words, “This song is a tribute to the 100 years of workers movement in the Philippines to honor their heroism and the greatness of their struggle for a sovereign and just society”.
