Abstract

Ang pangunahing layunin ng papel na ito ay matukoy ang mga ideolohiyang politikal sa limang pelikula ni Ishmael Bernal: Manila by Night “City After Dark” (1980); Himala (1982); Broken Marriage (1983); Hinugot sa Langit (1985); at Pahiram ng Isang Umaga (1989). Ang mga nominasyon at gantimpala na natanggap partikular na ang mula sa Gawad Urian Awards na ibinigay ang Best Film of the Decade o ang Best Picture Award mula noong dekada 1970s-1990s ang pamantayan ng pagpili sa mga nasabing pelikula. Bilang hermeneutikong lente, ginamit sa pagsusuri ang ideolohikal na spektrum na may dalawang dimensyon ng Alemang  teorisistang si Hans Slomp, na minodipika ni F.P.A. Demeterio sa kanyang librong pinamagatang Ang Mga Ideolohiyang Politikal ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines. Ang paggamit sa nasabing lente ay hango sa pananaliksik nina Felicilda at Demeterio (2019) na ginamit ito upang alamin ang mga ideolohiyang politikal sa limang nobela ng Rosales Saga ni F. Sionil Jose. Upang maisakatuparan ang layunin ng pananaliksik, mayroon itong limang substantibong seksyon na isa-isang tinatalakay ang mga sumusunod: 1) pangunahing mensahe at tema ng pelikula; 2) paninindigan ng pelikula tungkol sa kasalukuyan at pagbabago; 3) pagpapahalaga ng pelikula sa indibidwal at estado; at 4) kabuoang ideolohiyang politikal na nakapaloob sa pelikula.

  • Lois Mauri Anne Liwanag, Waseda University

    Lois Mauri Anne L. Liwanag is currently a graduate student of Master of Arts in International Relations (with a specialization in Area Studies) under the research project seminar in Popular Culture in Asia at Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan. She is a recipient of the scholarship program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Development Communication, summa cum laude and class valedictorian, at the Visayas State University.

    Von Griel S. Capague is an interior design associate in Leo Almeria Design Studio. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in interior design, magna cum laude, at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila

    Marie Frances Therese DS. Luglug is a student of Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at Centro Escolar University, Manila. She graduated senior high school in Music, Arts, and Design strand at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila.
