Abstract

This research aims to explore the somatic study of the Filipino body, with particular attention to the genitalia (butò, titi, phallus, or penis), while concurrently examining the cultural perception of the Filipino environment, specifically focusing on fauna. In various societies, including Filipino culture, animals have often been symbolically associated with genitalia. Despite this, the use of such symbolism in daily communication and cultural expressions remains under explored in academic discourse. This study will examine a range of terrestrial animals, including birds, aquatic species such as fish  and trepang (sea cucumber), and semi-aquatic creatures like crocodiles and snakes, which have frequently been attributed phallic symbolism. Additionally, the research will integrate insights from folk narratives and draw upon comparative cultural knowledge from other society to substantiate the symbolic and associative relationship between animals and genitalia.
