Abstract

Ikalima sa pinakaginagamit na social media service sa Pilipinas ang X (dating Twitter) kung saan itinuturing na isa sa mga namamayagpag na  birtwal na komunidad para sa LGBTQIA+ (Statista, 2022). Lingid sa kaalaman ng nakararami, nabuo ang mundo ng Alterverse sa X dahil sa tawag ng pangangailangan ng mga gay na kalalakihan upang malayang makapagpahayag ng mga sarili sa partikular na plataporma. Sa pamamagitan ng content analysis na naglalayong suriin ang mga espesipikong grupo tulad ng alters sa X bilang social media users, sinusuri ng papel na ito kung ano ang kasalukuyang estado ng mundo ng Alter matapos ang COVID-19. Napag-alaman nito na hindi lamang para sa mga gay na kalalakihan ang mundo ng alter dahil nahaluan na ito ng heterosekswal na content creators, na nagreresulta sa paglikha ng naiibang feature ng alter accounts. Lumabas sa pag-aaral na ito na self expression ang pinakadahilan ng mga homosekswal na content creators sa pagkakaroon ng alter accounts, samantalang pagbibigayserbisyo gamit ang sarili kapalit ng salapi ang pinakapakay ng mga heterosekswal na alter content creators.

Mula sa papel na ito, makikitang may parehas na presensya ng homosekswal at heterosekswal na content creators sa mundo ng Alterverse sa X, ngunit magkapareho man sila ng ginagawa ay iba ang kanilang hinahanap. Ang resulta ng pag-aaral ay maaaring gamitin sa mas malalim na pag-aaral sa buhay ng mga Alter.

    TRACY VALERIE E. DUMARAOS is currently an undergraduate student of Bachelor of Arts in Philippine Studies Major in Filipino in Internet Studies at De La Salle University, Laguna Campus. She served as a Campus Legislator for the Laguna Campus Student Government of the said university. Recently, she was recognized as “SDGs Inspiring Ambassador” at the Asia Pacific Youth SDGs Summit 2024 held in Seoul, South Korea.

  • Ryan P. Reyes, Polytechnic University of the Philippines

    RYAN PESIGAN REYES finished his PhD in Southeast Asian Studies in Centro Escolar University. He has an MA in Filipino from Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He has both a BA in History from University of the Philippines – Diliman and a BA in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College in Albany, New York. In, 2017, he was the first Filipino Interpreter in the 65th Miss Universe Pageant held in the Philippines. He is currently an Associate Professor for Polytechnic University of the Philippines and an Oral/Writing Proficiency Tester for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in Alexandria, Virginia.

    DR. LESLIE ANNE L. LIWANAG is an Associate Professor of De La Salle University School of Innovation and Sustainability. At 26, she completed her doctor’s degree in Philippine Studies (with a specialization in Language, Culture, and Media) at De La Salle University-Manila with a dissertation on the contributions of Isabelo de los Reyes to Philippine Studies. She served as the Managing Editor of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Research Journal and the Project Manager of the Andrew Gonzalez Philippine Citation Index. She was a Visiting Research Professor at the Council for Research in Values and Philosophy, Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. (2021 and 2023), Divinity School of Chung Chi College, Chinese University of Hong Kong (2024), and Digital Curriculum in Lived Theology and World Christianity, Overseas Ministries Study Center at Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton University, USA (2024).
