Even without an exact photograph taken from every scene of history, it was still successfully displayed by art like the famous mural, “Filipino Struggles Through History.” The Filipino Struggles Through History by renowned artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco, is composed of four panels and each panel contains historical scenes from different periods. From the four panels, the researchers analyzed the left panel focusing on the experience and situation of the country from the pre-colonial period to the central part of the 19th-century Spanish conquest. The researchers used Barthes’ semiology and Hans Slomp’s political ideology which was modified by F.P.A Demetrio in analyzing the political ideology of the left panel. Through the study, it was identified that a variety of signs and symbols reflect the reality of society at a time. The study also found that the dominant ideology of sections on the left panel was moderate. If Botong wants to bring his art specifically to ordinary Filipinos, it is important to see political ideology because it allows a deep understanding of history and a guide to a high regard for identity as Filipinos
