About the Journal
The Mabini Review is published annually by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development under the supervision of Research Publications Office, Polytechnic University of the Philippines. The journal seeks to advance scholarly engagement among academics and welcomes submissions from local and international authors presenting diverse philosophical perspectives with determined and logical presentation of thoughts or ideas. It also accepts contributions which cut across the fields of literature, cultural studies, humanities, sociology, politics, social history, Philippines studies, and other related disciplines.
Mabini Review is inspired by the Filipino hero, Apolinario Mabini, whose nipa house is currently located within the campus. Mabini first lived in this house in 1888. The original house used to be located across the Pasig River. It was moved to PUP Sta. Mesa in 2009 to give way to the widening of the Pasig River. Items inside the nipa house chronicle the life of a revolutionary hero, reflecting a philosophical and contemplative way of living. Mabini’s life, therefore, speaks volumes of a critical spirit, an attitude common to all scholars and researchers alike.
Mabini Review is open access, and all articles published by the journal are fully accessible online without a subscription fee. The journal also does not impose charges to its contributing authors for the publication of their submitted works. Published manuscripts can either be read online or downloaded as pdf files. Previous journal issues are archived, as well, to provide reference materials to our scholars and research enthusiasts. With its first publication in 2012, the journal continues its active and timely publication providing substantial research materials to members of the academic community, students, local and international researches, and interested readers.
The goals of the publication are as follows: (1) maintain confidentiality in managing submitted manuscripts; (2) observe timely publication of the journal; (3) pursue unbiased double blind review system; and (4) ensure that editorial decisions are based on originality, relevance, and quality of a manuscript and its contribution to the body of knowledge in the disciplines that the journal seeks to cultivate.

Publication Ethics and Guidelines
The Mabini Review is committed to uphold the highest ethical standards in research and academic publication. To achieve this, the entire publication process must be thorough, objective, and fair. In this regard, the journal is guided by the following principles:
Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board is responsible for the initial screening of the submitted manuscript. The editorial board checks the following elements of the manuscripts: referencing standards, grammar, plagiarism, and other technical standards. The editorial board reserves the right to filter manuscripts that are irrelevant to the journal’s theme. Also, the editorial board may choose to reject a paper that violates legal provisions on libel, copyrights, and originality (plagiarism, including Artificial Intelligence plagiarism). All information about the manuscript under review must remain confidential until the decision is made final to accept the paper for publication.
Responsibilities of the Referee
Mabini Review Journal and its editorial board is critical in the selection process of referees. The nomination of referees who are tasked with analyzing the scholarship and academic rigor of the submitted manuscripts is based on their areas of specialization and expertise. A referee is tasked to uphold the integrity of the manuscript by keeping the review process confidential. Also, a referee is responsible in informing the editorial board whenever a violation on the editorial and legal policy is suspected. The evaluation process on the submitted manuscript should be based solely on its academic merit, coherence of thoughts or ideas, and strength of the argument presented in the manuscript. It will not be influenced, in anyway, by religion, gender, sexuality, race and political views of the author.
Responsibilities of the Author
It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to warrant the accuracy of quotation and citation used in the manuscript including the complete list of references or bibliographic entries. The author must affirm that the submitted work is original and not plagiarized. The manuscript under review and being considered for publication in Mabini Review must not be submitted to another journal, otherwise, it will be a ground for the termination of the review process. By sending your submission, the author agrees to be bound by the Terms and Conditions stated in the journal’s publication ethics and guidelines.
Similarity Index
The journal adheres to the Turnitin total similarity score of 15% and below. This threshold warrants the originality of the submitted work while considering legitimate similarities to be excluded such as citations and commonly used phrases, direct quotations, bibliographic entries, and references provided they are properly cited.
AI-Generated Content
The submission should reflect original human scholarship. Articles flagged with AI-generated content above 10% will be subject to further scrutiny by the Editorial Board.
Permissible Use
Tools for grammar enhancement, formatting assistance, spelling checks, sentence restructuring, and translation purposes, e.g., Grammarly, are acceptable. However, the article's core ideas, arguments, and critical analyses must originate from the author.
Advertising Policy
The strategies and programs of the Research Publications Office include posting of article abstracts on the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, PUP Research and Extension, and Mabini Review Journal official Facebook pages.
Archiving
This journal uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) that allows publishers of OJS journals to digitally preserve their content. This means in the event that a journal stops publishing or goes offline, there will be a way to have continued long-term access to articles and issues. The PKP PN deposits content using the LOCKSS Program, which offers decentralized and distributed preservation. Also, PUP has established its own Online Journal System that serves as an archive of all its University Journals.
