Abstract

One crucial aspect of language development is intellectualization. This process is essential for facilitating effective communication and sharing knowledge with a wide audience. Therefore, when 
it comes to the intellectualization of a national language, it is vital for it to be utilized across all fields and disciplines. Dr. Fortunato B. Sevilla III, a distinguished Professor Emeritus at the 
University of Santo Tomas (UST), has been a strong advocate for the intellectualization of the Filipino language. His contributions range from teaching Chemistry using conversational Filipino 
to conducting scientific interviews. An in-depth analysis of Dr. Sevilla’s experiences with the use of Filipino in the field of Chemistry sheds light on the implications of intellectualizing the Filipino language for the advancement of scientific culture in the country.

  • Reynele Bren Zafra, De La Salle-Maynila

    Si Dr. Reynele Bren Zafra ay kasalukuyang guro sa Pamantasang De La Salle-Maynila at Unibersidad ng Pilipinas. Bilang isang guro at mananaliksik, si Dr. Zafra ay nakapaglathala ng mga teksbuk sa Filipino 
    at Agham Panlipunan mula antas preschool hanggang kolehiyo at ng mga pananaliksik sa mga pambansa at internasyonal na journal gaya ng Saliksik E-Journal, Dalumat E-Journal, at SEARCH: Journal of Media 
    and Communication Research. Naging Kawaksing Editor din siya ng HASAAN Journal, ang pambansang refereed journal sa Filipino ng Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas. Nakatanggap rin siya ng mga research 
    grant mula sa National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) at sa Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) upang saliksikin ang kultura ng batek sa Cordillera Region, at ang kultura at wikang Onhan sa 
    Probinsiya ng Romblon.

  • Jeznin Angekyla Barroquillo, De La Salle University-Manila

    Si Jeznin Angekyla Barroquillo ay kasalukuyang mag-aaral ng Bachelor of Science in Chemistry minor in Philippine Language Studies sa De La Salle University-Manila (DLSU-M). Bilang isang magaaral sa STEM, hangarin niyang pagsilbihan ang lipunang Pilipino gamit ang Agham at Teknolohiya na nakaugnay sa kulturang Pilipino. Dagdag dito, siya ay isang aktibista ng Anakbayan Vito Cruz, isang pambansang demokratikong pangmasang organisasyon ng kabataan, at photojournalist ng The LaSallian, ang opisyal na publikasyon ng DLSU-M.
