Responsibilities of the Editorial Board
The Editorial Board is responsible for the initial screening of the submitted manuscript. It checks the following elements of the manuscripts: referencing standards, grammar, plagiarism, and other technical specifications. The board reserves the right to filter manuscripts that are irrelevant to the journal’s focus and scope. Further, it may choose to reject a paper that violates legal provisions on libel, copyrights, originality (plagiarism, including Artificial Intelligence plagiarism), and other ethical misconducts. The editorial board makes the final publication decisions and ensure to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all the articles accepted for publication.
Responsibilities of the Reviewers
The Education Review Journal and its editorial board is critical in the selection process of reviewers. The nomination of reviewers who are tasked with analyzing the scholarship and academic rigor of the submitted manuscripts is based on their areas of specialization and expertise. A reviewer is tasked to uphold the integrity of the manuscript and is responsible in informing the editorial board whenever a violation of the editorial and legal policy is suspected. Further, a reviewer strictly follows the evaluation process of the submitted manuscript and keeps all information confidential until its publication.
Responsibilities of the Author
It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to warrant the accuracy of quotation and citation used in the manuscript including the complete list of references or bibliographic entries. The author must affirm that the submitted work is original and not plagiarized. The manuscript under review and considered for publication in Education Review must not be submitted to another journal, otherwise, it will be a ground for the termination of the review process. By sending your submission, the author agrees to be bound by the Terms and Conditions stated in the journal’s publication ethics and guidelines.
Guidelines for Authorship
All authors whose names appear on the submission:
- Made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the research output; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; or the creation of new knowledge or ideas used in the work.
- Drafted the work or revised it critically for important intellectual content.
- Approved the version to be published.
- Agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
- All parties who make substantial contributions to the article should be listed as authors. Principal authorship, authorship order, and other publication credits should be based on the relative scientific or professional contributions of the individuals involved, regardless of their status. A student is usually listed as principal author in any multiple-authored publication that substantially derives from the student’s dissertation or thesis.
- The Editor or members of the Editorial Board may occasionally submit their own manuscripts for possible publication in the journal. However, the peer review process will be managed by alternative members of the Board and the submitting Editor/Board member will not be involved in the decision-making process.
Role of Corresponding Author
One author is assigned as Corresponding Author to every submission and acts on behalf of all co-authors on matters concerning the editorial process of the article.
The following are the main responsibilities of the Corresponding Author:
- Ensure that all listed authors have approved the manuscript before submission, including the names and order of authors.
- Manage all communication between the Journal and all co-authors, before and after publication.
- Provide transparency on re-use of material and mention any unpublished material (for example manuscripts in press) included in the manuscript in a cover letter to the Editor.
- Make sure that disclosures, declarations, and transparency on data statements from all authors are included in the manuscript if necessary.
Affiliation
- Author and co-authors must list all relevant affiliations where the research was approved, supported, or conducted.
- For non-research articles, list your current institutional affiliation.
- If you move to a different institution before publication, list your current affiliation.
- If case you do not have a current institutional affiliation or organization, state your independent status.
Publication Process
- Manuscripts must be submitted through the PUP Publishing Site that uses the PKP Online Journal System. The submitting author, who is generally the corresponding author, is responsible for the manuscript during the submission and peer-review process. The submitting author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the author and that they have all read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
- Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.
- All manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editorial Board. After submission, these manuscripts will undergo a pre-check by managing editor in collaboration with the editor-in-chief for plagiarism, academic rigor, and suitability for the journal. This process usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on the number of submissions.
- If it passes the initial check, the manuscripts will go through a double-blind review in which the identities of the referees and the author are concealed from all parties, otherwise they will be desk rejected by the journal and the author will be notified immediately via email by the managing editor. In some exceptional cases, the article will be returned to the author for revision and resubmission.
Peer Review Process
The Journal observes double-blind peer review system where both the identities of the reviewer and the contributor are kept confidential from each other. A minimum of two independent reviewers is normally required for every research article. The Editor will consider peer reviewers' comments and recommendations when deciding whether to accept or reject a manuscript, but the final decision is the Editor's responsibility.
- Initial screening process of the Editorial Board. Prior to the review process, initial screening is done by the members of the editorial board to guarantee the appropriateness of the manuscript for publication. The editorial board checks the following elements of the manuscripts: referencing standards, grammar, plagiarism, and other technical standards. Also, the editorial board reserves the right to filter manuscripts that are irrelevant to the Journal’s theme.
- Blind peer-review process. The Journal observes double-blind peer review system where both the identities of the reviewer and the contributor are kept confidential from each other. Since the review process could be tedious, we ask for the patience of the author.
- Notice of acceptance or rejection. Based on the feedback from the referees or reviewers, the author will be informed whether the Editorial Board has decided to accept or reject the submission for publication. In many cases, the author is tasked to revise one’s submission based on the recommendations of the referees and the Editorial Board. Both the reviewers and the Editorial Board have the final say whether to include the manuscript or not in the Journal.
- Notice to publish. A notice to publish will be sent to the author once the recommended revisions are addressed. In this stage, we require full cooperation from the author as this stage involves editing the style, format, grammar, and layout of the accepted submission.
- All accepted manuscripts for publication are copyedited, proofread, and sent back to the contributor for approval of significant/substantial editorial changes. However, the editor reserves the right to make minor changes for clarity and accuracy without seeking the author’s permission.
Citations
- All articles, whether research or non-research, must cite relevant, recent, and verified literature (preferably peer-reviewed) to support their claims.
- Avoid excessive self-citation or agreements to cite each other's work, as this is considered citation manipulation.
- For non-research articles (e.g., Reviews, Literary), ensure your references are relevant and offer a fair, balanced view of the current research. Do not show unfair bias towards specific research groups, organizations, or journals.
- Reuse of third-party material such as short extracts of text and some other types of material are usually permitted, on a limited basis, for criticism and review without securing formal permission. Suppose the author wishes to include any material in their paper for which they do not hold copyright, and which is not covered by this informal agreement. In that case, they must obtain written permission from the copyright owner before submission
Competing Interests
All authors must declare any competing interests related to their article, whether financial or non-financial, that could influence their research and interpretation of results. This includes conflicts of interest with products that compete with those mentioned in their manuscript. If unsure whether to disclose a competing interest, authors should consult their institution.
Complaints and Appeals
The journals managed by the PUP-Research Publications Office adhere to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for appeals and peer-review management. We accept valid appeals and post-publication complaints, which should be addressed to the editor-in-chief. The editor-in-chief will investigate, gathering evidence from all parties involved, and suggesting an academically ethical solution. Review and publication processes can be paused until the problem is resolved. If the editor-in-chief is involved in the complaint, the Editorial Board, led by one of the associate editors, will investigate and recommend a resolution.
Funding
All internal funds, grants, and financial support from institutions, employers, or affiliated organizations; and external funds, grants, and financial support from private foundation, NGOs, political groups, think tanks, charities, research organizations, and government agencies received by the authors to do their research must be declared.
Similarity Index
The journal adheres to the Turnitin total similarity score of 15% and below. This threshold warrants the originality of the submitted work while considering legitimate similarities to be excluded such as citations and commonly used phrases, direct quotations, bibliographic entries, and references provided they are properly cited.
AI-Generated Content
The submission should reflect original human scholarship. Articles flagged with AI-generated content above 10% will be subject to further scrutiny by the editorial board.
Permissible Use
Tools for grammar enhancement, formatting assistance, spelling checks, sentence restructuring, and translation purposes, e.g., Grammarly, are acceptable. However, the article's core ideas, arguments, and critical analyses must originate from the author.
